Podzemiks goodbye.

Rainbow inside. Olivia's favorite.
Trying to lighten the mood :-)

Jeremy's birthday

This was another insane cake...

Bottom is dummy, middle is actual dr pepper cans. Top is vanilla with a surprise mosaic logo inside. SMB and sprinkles. Real toy airplane.

Happy birthday Zane!

This cake was for a friend. Vanilla cake, vanilla SMB.

Inside.

Petal ombré

Sherita's odd cupcake cake

This was an odd request... Chocolate, bacon, siracha cupcakes with a maple SMB, topped with candied bacon, in the shape of Texas....
Planning the layout.

Baked!

Candied bacon.

Finished product. I learned that the person who delivered the cake (Sunil!!!!) ate a significant portion of the candied bacon so the moustache looked sparse upon delivery!  It's hard to find good help.

Mosaic Pull Apart Cake

Making a logo out of cupcakes is challenging!!!

Deciding on the layout.

Starting to frost, but the logo isn't quite right.

Final product. Half chocolate, half vanilla, vanilla SMB

Live every week like its shark week.

Although I never actually watch shark week, I still seem to get excited about it for some reason. This year, I decided to make a shark week cake because I'd been wanting to do a horizontal ruffle ombré, and what better way to show it off than waves in the sea.

I baked two 8" rounds using my favorite "Fluffy Vanilla Cake" from Sweetapolita. I also tried something new, we'll see how it worked out...After brainstorming with Jeff about wanting a thick layer of strawberry compote, he suggested instead of a buttercream dam, that I use a ring of cake. I had an extra layer of vanilla in the freezer from last week, so I cut the middle out, and filled it with compote. I'm going for an "oozy" layer effect, and I think using a cake layer instead of a dam will allow that to happen. I whipped up some silky smooth Swiss meringue buttercream from Sweetapolita, colored it, and piped using a Wilton 104 for the ruffles. This was my first time using my fancy new turn table and it was AMAZING. I also made some white chocolate shark fins that I put around the top of the cake. Hopefully the guys at Jeff's work will enjoy it.

"So here's some advice I wish I would have got when I was your age... Live every week, like it's shark week."

Before adding "whitecaps" and fins.

Finished project. I'll add a pic of the inside when they cut it tomorrow.

Here's the inside :)

Jacks 3rd birthday

Jack really wanted a "Cars" cake for his 3rd birthday in the shape of a 3.  So of course, that's what he got.  The cars were real toys, so he got to enjoy playing with them.  The cake is a checkered board chocolate and vanilla, with SMBC for the frosting, and crushed oreos for the road.

Herndon, party of 2

I was so honored to make a wedding cake for my sisters wedding. She had a rustic wedding in a beautiful barn. Although she served cupcakes as the main dessert, I still think the cake was the star of the dessert show.

The bottom tier of the cake was 4 layers of vanilla pound cake with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream filling.  This was the best batch of SMB I've ever made. I'm not sure if it was the Kerrygold, or all the extra love, but it was gooooood! I think I scraped about 10 vanilla beans for this tier.  The middle tier was chocolate cake with chocolate Swiss meringue buttercream. I hid a pink heart as a surprise for the bride and groom. The top was a dummy. I crumbcoated with vanilla SMB and covered in Richs Bettercreme with an up and down pattern for a rustic look.  I wrapped backed burlap and lace (the same lace from the tables) on the top and bottom tiers, and backed burlap around the middle tier.  The flowers on the cake were actually from gifts at her bridal shower that happened to match perfectly.

I torted, filled, assembled and frosted all at the venue which was 3 hours from home. I baked and wrapped everything at home, and transported it.

Finished product.

Surprise inside.
